How to Choose a Dance School

Legitimate Ballet Education:

1. Search a School with a Faculty That Studied and Graduated with the Following:
  • A REAL diploma!!!
    • Some certification programs are great too. They are a way to refresh professional knowledge.
  • A Master's Degree in teaching ballet, character dance, baroque dance, partnering, dance history, etc.
2. Methodologies Include The Following:
  • Vienna State Opera Ballet School (Vaganova Method)
  • Paris Opera Ballet School, France (Modern Codified Technique)
  • San Francisco Ballet School, USA
  • Princess Grace of Monaco Academy, Monte Carlo (Vaganova Method)
  • Vaganova Academy, St. Petersburg
  • Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow (Vaganova Method)
  • Royal Ballet, England (RB method)
  • The Harid Conservatory, USA (Vaganova Method)
  • Sunhwa Arts Academy, South Korea (Vaganova Method)
  • Royal Danish School, Denmark (Bourneville Method)
  • JKO School, USA (ABT Curriculum)
  • John Cranko School, Germany (Vaganova Method)
And other schools that teach: Vaganova, Bourneville, or French Method.

3. A Professional Dance Career
Make sure you search the teacher name if they performed professionally and abroad. Performing abroad is very important because ballet is an international education. Reading a bio from a website can be vague, so broaden your search! Also, some faculty members that graduated from a local school and studied intensively, with teachers that hold Diplomas from mentioned schools above, have a good value to the dance school. If they continue their education after they turn 18 and have teaching experience in such dance schools, they are a good asset to a dance program.

What is the Best Ballet Method?
The other methods are all still good methods of teaching ballet, however the Vaganova method is now recognized as the foremost training method and syllabus of the classical ballet the world over.
